Prior to painting cabinets, they should be properly prepared. Some mild sanding techniques are necessary when the wood finish or old paint is glossy and smooth. The surface should be rough so that the new paint will easily adhere to it. After sanding the cabinet surface, clean them with soap and water. After drying, painting tape should be applied to the edges of the cabinets, on the floor, counter tops, walls and other surfaces to prevent paint from getting into places where you do not want it to go.
With the number of home sales dropping, and the tighter restrictions in the mortgage industry, many homeowners are finding it harder than ever to sell their homes and upgrade to a larger home. Because of this trend, home renovation projects are on the rise as homeowners are finding ways to make their current homes more livable, while adding value to their home at the same time. The easiest way to add value and create the feel of a new home, is to renovate your kitchen.
Kitchen cabinets can be available in many types, styles and designs. You can get the most luxurious ones for your kitchen but like many people, you will get tired of watching them. There are not many people in this world who can afford to remodel their kitchens every year. Therefore, it is wise to select such a design for your kitchen cabinets that could be pleasing for the eyes all the time.
Just because the cabinets are painted a color as strong as black does not mean that they must be made of plywood or other cheap materials. It is possible to find black kitchen cabinets that are made out of as high quality wood as unpainted cabinets would be. Some manufacturers even offer them in cherry, which is the hardest and most expensive type of wood you can purchase for home use.
Although as with anything the lower to mid range priced stock cabinets are typically made from thinner materials and have economy hardware such as cabinet door hinges and drawer slides. There are a few advantages with using stock cabinetry the very first one that comes to mind is cost. Since stock cabinets are mass produced they can be quite affordable. Another advantage is speed, in most cases dealers have access to larger warehouses where the cabinets are stored, and you can have your stock cabinet order within a few short weeks or in some cases days.
The cabinets do not have to be traditional wood. Getting glass doors are a great way to open up the kitchen to light and space. Glass doors have some negatives as well. They are easily fingerprinted so require more frequent cleaning. The interior cabinets also need to be organized at all times for aesthetic purposes.
